Tips for Coping With ADHD and Clumsiness
Annie describes herself to be a very clumsy person, and these incidents frequently happen to her. Lucky for you, Annie is sharing her tips for avoiding bumping into things and people.
I, for one, am a very clumsy person, I'm always bumping into people, bumping into things, dropping things, spilling things. Anything that revolves around being clumsy, you name it, I do it.
Just last night, I knocked over and broke a mug. Shh, don't tell my roommates. And just before filming this video I knocked my coffee on the ground. So, clumsy incidents happen to me frequently.
One thing that bothers me is when people get annoyed or mad about me being clumsy. I'm not doing these things on purpose, it just kind of happens. So, that's one thing I want to say to you. Don't let other people's judgments make you feel bad about yourself.
Clean Your Surroundings
There are things that you can do to help cope with being clumsy.
For example, try cleaning up and de-cluttering. For me, the more I have on surfaces or my floor, the more likely I am to trip, or knock things over and break something.
So, the less you have around you, the less you have to deal with having a little clumsy accident.
I should probably take my own advice because breaking that mug and spilling my coffee was because of the cluttered surface. So, I should fix that after this video.
How Stress Affects Your Clumsiness
Anxiety is another thing that can affect clumsiness — or should I say clumsiness can be an effect of anxiety?
The more you're stressed and in your own head, the less likely you are to be aware of your surroundings because you're so focused on what's going on, what are the problems, and what's all this jumbled mess in my head.
You know, you're not paying attention to what's around you, at least that's how it is for me. So, a good thing to help out with clumsiness as far as anxiety goes is just to try to de-stress.
Try Meditation
Meditation can be a great tool for relieving stress. You can go to YouTube and search guided meditation for stress relief.
There are so many videos that can help you out with that, so I highly recommend trying that out. You can also read or listen to music or whatever else helps you with de-stressing and clearing your head.
Work On Your Balance
Balance is another thing that you can work on to help be a little less clumsy.
Try balancing exercises like take a yoga class, or look up yoga videos online. It really helps you focus on working on your balance specifically, or try working on your core muscles, so do sit-ups or crunches or any ab exercises, or any just core exercise in general because that will help with your stability and your balance and, you know, help you kind of control yourself a little better, which I should do.
So yeah, there are things that you can do to work on being a little less clumsy, and just don't be too hard on yourself. Take it from me, I run into doors, into walls, into people, into anything you can possibly run into, and I've just learned to shake it off and laugh at myself, so learn to laugh at yourself.
Everyone does embarrassing things, it's not that big of a deal. We are all humans, so let's support each other and stick together and know that it's going to be okay.
